Taking Fitness To Heart

The other week I had my annual physical.  Not great news.  My weight is back up over… a number I’m too embarrassed to admit aloud, and my cholesterol is up to 244.  Needless to say, I got put on cholesterol meds.  The only good news was blood pressure was within a normal range.

Time to take fitness to heart.

I decided that I needed a goal beyond just losing weight to actually be motivated to do it, so, I signed on to the Twin Cities Challenge MS Walk on an old friend’s team, the COWs.  My friend, Carolyn, has had MS for around 20 years, and yet she has managed to complete 3 day 50 mile hikes each September for the last six or seven years and has managed to raise tens of thousands of dollars to find a cure for this disabling and killer disease.  Getting myself fit to walk with Carolyn’s team in another 15 weeks or so is just the inspiration I need to get myself fit again!

You can help in one of two ways–

There is now a “Friends of MS Walkathon” Dubli portal at http://vur.me/s/MSWalkathon if you like to shop for name brand merchandise and support a charity at the same time.  Thirty percent of every dollar spent in Dubli credits through this portal will go to the Walkathon.  Right now there is a $10,000 visa debit card being bid on in the unique item auction site.  There’s 9 days left on the auction and the lowest unique bid will win it, even if that’s just a dollar or two.  A recently completed auction of a $500 Amazon gift card just sold at Dubli for only $2! It’s not unusual for bids to be won with huge savings.

The other way to contribute is directly through my Walkathon link at: http://vur.me/s/LizNicholsMSWalk. That’s the direct way to contribute to my team entry.  I’ve pledged to earn $2000 before the walk begins on September 11.
