How to Stay on Course with Your Diet Plan

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

The trick with any diet when you have a significant amount of weight to lose is to make the diet so much a part of your life that it becomes a habit. For this reason, the kinds of diet plans that have worked best for me have been diets that involve most of the same foods I eat regularly– just less of it and in balance nutritionally. Some of these ideas were also offered on Dr. Oz’s show this past week to help a woman who needed to lose over 100 lbs.

You may substitute some things in your diet– for example,
>a few water crackers in place of a roll or piece of bread,
>a small piece of 70% or higher dark chocolate instead of that bowl of ice cream,
>a protein shake or a bowl of oatmeal sweetened with stevia for breakfast rather than a sweet roll or sugary dry cereal,
>a smaller baked potato with plain yogurt as a topping, or two green veggies rather than having any high carb veggie or grain for dinner,
>a small piece of lean meat that is broiled or baked rather than fried.

For most people these are small enough changes that after two or three weeks they will just become habit.

Write these healthy ingredients down each week on your shopping list and stick with the list. Don’t be tempted by impulse buying to get a lot of pre-packaged junk foods and snacks. They almost always contain too much fat, sugar and/or salt.

Another idea for staying the course is to eat slowly and mindfully. A psychologist friend of mine calls this “mindful eating.” Savor all the flavors. Eat without other distractions from TV or Internet. When you eat slowly and mindfully you allow time for your stomach to register the fact that it is receiving nutrition and is getting full. If you eat fast and in a distracted way, you tend to eat more because it takes 20 minutes or so for your stomach to register that it is full. To me, this is actually a much harder new habit to acquire than substituting and fixing smaller portions. It involves a real commitment to break the cycle multi-tasking in our busy lives and to pay attention to what we are putting in our mouths as a “main event” rather than just a distraction in our lives. Who knows, making the food the “main event” could just bring your family back together for meals!

Next, eat several small meals per day, not just one or two big ones. If you eat every 2 1/2 to 3 hours throughout the day you keep the brain from telling you that it is deprived. Eat the right kinds of small meals and you will never feel hungry and your body will metabolize your food better. Of course, the same kinds of substitutions as given in the list above should be made, adding things like a handful of almonds, a low fat protein bar or protein shake, celery and other green veggies or a small salad with an olive oil and vinegar dressing.

The diet plans I’ve been most successful with also allow moderate amounts of fruit such as berries and apples and veggies like carrots and tomatoes, and low fat yogurt. There are good plans that disallow fruits, certain veggies and dairy because they tend to spike blood sugar. I would tend to avoid these higher sugar fruits, veggies and dairy for a two or three week reset period for my diet, but then reintroduce them thereafter in moderate levels to use as snacks. Personally, my body is less likely to feel deprived if I have a full range of the food groups available to me as long as I limit my intake of those products that can spike blood sugar.

Exercise is a critical factor in a long term diet plan. This is another one that I personally find hard to work into a habit. When I do, it invariably helps to keep my diet on track with faster and more consistent weight loss and a greater feeling of well-being. Make sure that you have checked with your doctor before starting a physical exercise plan and don’t overdo. Still, you can’t let obesity be your excuse for never getting off the couch! Even if it starts with just a few stretches done while sitting in a chair, you must get more active in order to stimulate the metabolism! As you lose weight and feel more energetic, then get out of the house and take a walk or go to the gym for a light workout at least 3 or 4 days a weeks.

It will take maybe three weeks for any of these changes to become new habits. Once they are set in place, they should all be maintainable long term because they involve only small changes in lifestyle and no sense of being deprived.

Contracts Are Out Against This Woman…

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Dr. Suzanne Gudakunst is a marked woman.  She is up against the drug industry and many physicians who make their living by seeing that we stay sick. She’s revealed the secret in a downloadable book she’s called the world’s “Top Secret Fat Loss Secret.”

In the past 6 years she has worked largely in secret developing what may be the “cure” for obesity — and testing this first on herself, and then on a select group of volunteer patients who anxiously awaited salvation from the harmful effects of suffering “the battle of bulge.”

So valuable her SHOCKING findings and PROVEN results are, that she’s now just released her simple and easy-to-do system under the aptly titled: “Top Secret Fat Loss Secret!”

And her timing is right on target…

- Since recent studies reveal obesity has now reached epidemic  proportions, affecting the health and lives of more than 40% ofAmericans alone who are labeled   “obese!”

– Children are “fatter than ever” according to most experts,
and Dr Suzanne’s remedy may prove a preventative in the fight
against diabetes when these same children grow into adults!

And what may be the BIGGEST “Shock” of all is this horrifying fact:

=> Dr Suzanne has received death threats for simply making
her secret fat loss solution available to the general public.

One federal law enforcement official (who insists on remaining nameless) said in confidence:

”It’s no shock to us at the [agency name withheld for security
purposes] that this lady doc has received so many threats on
her life as food and drug companies stand to lose potentially
billions of dollars by the release of her new breakthrough
     secret for  losing weight.”

But now with the release of this breakthrough weight and fat loss revelation, people who previously struggled so very hard with little or any success in the fight against the “extra pounds” now have a weapon on their side.

And the Doc has a few very BIG heavy-hitters on her side!

Joined in unison by some of the biggest names in modern medicine from the likes of Johns Hopkins, Harvard Medical, and a good number of the other leading world-recognized hospitals and higher-learning institutions, Dr Suzanne moves rapidly forward in her personal “war” on ugly, unwanted fat and for the pursuit of better and eventually optimal health for all!

Additionally, you should know that nothing about her secret fat loss cure is difficult or hard to do.

What you may even find strangely surprising about her secret is the fact that it can by done by anyone effortlessly! (You’ll have to see it for yourself to understand how this is actually possible!)

So if you are someone who has been losing the fight against ugly fat and unwanted extra inches (that eventually without a doubt will shorten your life and lower the quality of it), then this is exactly what the good lady-doctor ordered!

Just grab the good doctor’s secret for yourself at: http://viralurl.com/emailfree111/FatLossSecret

Fair warning …It’s my understanding that she knocks off nearly HALF the price just for people getting over there within 24-48 hours.

Also keep this in mind…
———————————–
How many times have you seen sudden “breakthroughs” of such great controversy potentially come along and cause a woman doctor to actually get death threats for her secret ‘know-how?’ — You’re right … very, very few.

So don’t overlook this post as it may very well prove to be one of the most influential and important ones you’ve ever received…

Lack Of Exercise – Obesity

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Regarding personal health-wellness and nutrition, obesity is amongst the main problems. It is not unknown that majority of health problems happen as the result of unhealthy food habits and lack of exercise. Health obesity problems happens because lack of physical exercises to burn the unneeded plus calorie intake.

Sadly, while more than half a population of kids die because of starving or cannot eat enough, there s another part of children that suffer from obesity epidemic as the result of excessive eating of food. Thus far, and surprisingly not much people have though of over food consumption as a health hazard. If the parents are overweighted, the possibility is higher that the children too will become overweighted and the issue has everything to do with food habits in the family setting.

From recently, health obesity issues have cropped alarmed parents, kids and doctors alike. Researchers predict that we are possibly to experience health obesity issues as the result of an overweight generation. How do you think it will make effect on the world if all young people get falling ill into one chronic condition or the other? What if the mortality rate of premature deaths rises? How would that affect the current young generation’s kids in another decade to come?  Are we about to see a world with orphans or maybe a world without any children at all?

It is noted that more than 300,000 American deaths happen due to health obesity issues; the more overweight a person is the more at risk he/she may be.  Similarly, heart diseases such as heart attacks, congestive heart failure, angina, chest pain are the common culprits that cause death in lot of people who are at risk from health obesity.

Health obesity also ruptures psychological well being by hampering one’s self esteem. Many over-weight individuals try to pretend that they are happy but deep inside they’d either suffer from low self esteem or feel bad about eating. Over eating also become a habit for some people and when they lose hope and self esteem, they will continue to neglect themselves.  There is another type of health obesity sufferers who start the excessive food consumtion just to solve depression. But sadly, over food consumtion is has never been and will be an answer to depression. There are a lot of information which can help, maybe the problem is a bit shadowy, but it can be solved!

Reasons Behind Obesity

Monday, August 10th, 2009

There are three words which has the major factor in longevity: nutrition health wellness, but these are mostly threatened by obesity today.
Obesity is considered to be the major most problem amongst many Americans who do not have enough time to think about their health and get their boots warmed up doing some exercises.  With many of these people having a higher amount of a body mass index (usually more than 30), it also cause them some kind of a stress and sadness as well.

There are lot of categories for causes of obesity. It is common these days to see a thin and skinny type of a person suddenly becoming a fat and an over weighed person.THis is highly possible due to the medication given to a person to diagnose another illness, hence the effects of it will cause a high acceptability of gaining more calories.

One of causes of obesity is the genetic influence. Some people tend to get it from the family. This kind of obesity is hard to deal with since our body becomes more available for food from the birth.

The term “obesity “is not taken seriously by many Americans and many medical professionals. Even in documentary programs it is often seen the humor with an overly weighed person. This is after not knowing the serious problems it could cause to the individual. High blood pressure, hardness of breathing and also high sugar level is all vulnerable to a person with obesity.

The advertisements done regarding the fast food will tempt many people with their busy schedules to go for it. With excessive fat levels in those foods it is more than likely to be a cause of obesity. As the food organisations in USA or the medical governing bodies not willing to take their steps in to this matter, it is unlikely to be solved in the near future.

It is a fairly straightforward definition that the causes of obesity has. You gain weight when you gather more calories than what you dispose. Fast foods and very less exercises cause almost 6 million Americans to be overly weighed and have problems with their health. Simple things such as having a walk outside, or taking your dog for a walk and also cleaning your household or maybe even washing the car are fairly easier ways to get rid of your excessive amounts of fat.

With many causes of obesity there should be some resisting actions required from your side to make yourself healthier and fit. That will lead to a better health and a longer life.

From The Desert To The Global Market: The Hoodia Magic

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Belonging to a flowering plant family, Apocynaceae, Hoodia is one of the 13 species in the family. Often it is mistaken for a cactus because it looks like a cactus but actually it is a stem succulent. It reaches to a meter in height and has large flowers. Its flower has a tan color and has strong smell. They are naturally found in the Namib Desert of Africa spread across the Central Namibia to the southern Angola. Hoodia gordonii, one of the 13 species of Hoodia has been investigated for its use by local inhabitants as an appetite suppressant. Since then Hoodia oodia has been marketed extensively as a weight loss product across the world. The originators of this knowledge are the San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert. The plant is harvested after it begins to flower which takes five years. The San Bushmen have been using the plant for centuries for various purposes such as indigestion and for the treatment of small infections besides being taken for long hunting trips as an appetite suppressant.

The use of Hoodia gordonii by San Bushmen was noted by a Dutch anthropologist. The South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) commenced studies on the plant in 1977. It was successful in isolating a steroidal glycoside, the principal ingredient responsible for suppressing appetite. This ingredient was named P57. The patent for this discovery was obtained in 1996. CSIR formally recognized the San Bushmen as the originators of the knowledge only in 2002 when this non-recognition issue was raised. This made the San people eligible for getting a share in the royalties from the sales of Hoodia and any other products based on this knowledge. In 1995 Phytopharm received the license for P57 from CSIR. The company spent about $20 million for carrying out research on hoodia. P57 was sub-licensed In 1998 Phytopharm sub-licensed the rights to Pfizer for $21 million but returned the rights back to Phytopharm who is collaborating with Unilever.

Hoodia created a sensation when BBC reported on it in 2003 followed by 60 Minutes in 2004. Many products claiming to be Hoodia products began to be marketed. They are marketed in different forms such as capsules, tablets, liquid tinctures, coffee and infusions, syrups, protein shakes and even diet fruit bars. There are products such as Hoodia Supreme who claims pure Hoodia as its ingredient. 74

Recognizing that Hoodia is threatened because of the indiscriminate trade from Africa, CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) listed it under its Appendix II identifying it as a plant that should be brought under strict regulation. This certification also is proof of its genuineness.

Metabolism Supplements and You

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

There are lots of health conditions that trouble people to different degrees. One of this is the ‘slow’ inefficient metabolism. Of course there are different ways to remedy this type of problem whose most visible and upsetting effect is weight gain. You can help yourself to improve your metabolism by taking vitamins or supplements which are known to boost metabolism. In this article, the focus is on metabolism supplements that are advertised as great weight loss solutions. Although they are helpful in increasing metabolism reactions, supplements alone are not effective enough to cause the desired level of calories burning therefore weight loss.

In order to see the desired effects you must combine a healthy diet and a good physical exercise plan with metabolism supplements and vitamins, and, even with medication if a specialist recommends it. There is the misconception that caffeine supplements boost your metabolism. It is also said that CLA, protein, fish oil and green tea can do the job for you. With green tea, for example, it was proved that daily energy expenditure of young people is increased by 80%; this is what we want to hear, isn’t it? Yet, let us not forget that our bodies adapt to a stimulus and not long after the desired effects cease to occur. Even if you get to lose some weight with the help of green tea supplementing your diet, still there is a downside to it: the process is slower and  most of us would want it as fast as possible.

Although there are lots of medications and miracle supplements advertised in magazines and online it would be better if you used the more natural metabolism supplements. Here we refer to certain legumes and vegetables, grains and fruit, as well as to certain types of meat (chicken, fish etc) which contain vitamins, fibers and other elements that help improve the breaking down of the foods we eat by boosting digestion.

One very popular natural supplement is a fruit called acai berry from the Amazon region. Among the other natural metabolism supplements, the acai berry is a miraculous fat burner that Brazilians have taken in and benefited from for years and years. Its effects are so good because it contains plenty of minerals and vitamins thus helping to increasing energy and speeding up metabolism. Another effect of this fruit is that it helps you feel hungry less often than before. All in all, metabolism supplements alone will do the job only partly, the fat deposits will remain unless you adjust diet and take up a physical training pattern.

How to Increase Your Metabolism

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Slow metabolism is often blamed for improper or insufficient weight loss as well as for obesity. Apparently, the first and most probable to work solution is to find a way to increase metabolism. Fortunately, there are experts in the field who are capable of helping you with all the knowledge they have gained in time. So, even if your metabolism seems to be your body’s enemy, there are weapons out there that you can use to fight back and get rid of the impact of a slow metabolism. Besides, metabolic enhancement will not only help you lose weight but it will make you feel full of energy.
Seattle HCG Diet Weight Loss Center

There are endless resources you can turn to if you need to increase metabolism. Books, specialists, friends’ tips and advice as well as the Internet, are out there always ready to provide you with the knowledge and support necessary. The very concept of metabolism refers to the way and not the speed that the body processes the food you eat. Therefore it is more appropriate to describe metabolism as functional/efficient vs inefficient/dysfunctional rather than fast or slow. The three components of metabolism are: basal metabolism – 60-655 of the calories eaten daily are spent to keep you alive by providing the basic energy to support your life; physical activity – 25% of your calories go into movement/physical activities; and thermic effect of food – 10% of the calories are needed in processing the food you have.
Seattle HCG Diet Weight Loss Center

In order to lose weight, you normally have to reduce caloric intake, to increase consumed  calories or both. This may come as a surprise to you: there are people whose caloric intake is very low and yet, they get fatter every day. Well, it should not be a shock as these people usually have thyroid problems. This happens as their basal metabolism is lower, their physical activity is probably quite limited and/or the thermic effect of the food they eat is inadequate. As a result the calorie burning processes are also too slow. In conclusion they have to increase metabolism somehow.
Seattle HCG Diet Weight Loss Center

How can you increase metabolism and achieve weight loss? Well, there are different solutions provided by diets, pharmaceutical compounds or fitness programs. One very good solution revolves around relying on green food for metabolic enhancement. These vegetables highly praised for their effects are full of fibers, contain vitamin B and magnesium and are poor in calories. The top 10 of such vegetables is composed of: spinach, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, peppers, asparagus, beets, celery, eggplants and carrots.

Obesity Statistics Prove We Have No Self Control Over Our Eating Habits

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Obesity in America is so bad that it has been called an epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a person is deemed to be obese if he has a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above. This means that the person consumes more food than is required by the body and does not burn enough calories. As a result the person would suffer from diabetes, heart disease and metabolic syndrome to name a few. The main causes of obesity are said to be unhealthy eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. A decrease in physical activity results in lower calories being burnt. However hormone deficiencies could also lead to obesity.

The obesity statistics are somewhat staggering. It is said that virtually two-thirds of American adults above the age of 20 , that is 66 percent of the population, are said to be obese, according to results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) . Out of these obesity statistics, 33 percent are said to be women whereas only 30 percent are said to be men. Another survey by NHANES shows that the prevalence rates of children aged between 2 to 5 years has increased from 5 percent to 13.9 percent over the last few years. Children too face the obesity epidemic and their future seems not too bright as CDC researches predict that by the time these children reach the age of 25, they’d become obese.

Based on obesity statistics by the National Institutes of Health, obesity is the second leading cause of death that can be prevented, in America. This is only exceeded by tobacco. An estimated 300, 000 deaths are said to be caused as a result of obesity each year. Diabetes too is very common among obese people bringing about more complication to their health. 80 percent of those suffering from type 2 diabetes are said to be related to obesity according to obesity statistics by the Wellness International Network Limited.

These obesity statistics from America are quite scary to begin with and that is why the situation has been named an apidemic. If people could become more careful and aware of the implications and adapt new lifestyles that are healthier on their food habits and the amount of exercises they receive, perhaps obesity statistics will start changing?.

An Obesity Epidemic In Adults And Children

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Obesity epidemic is a term which describes the timely and accurate health condition caused by overweight populations around the world. Isn’t it shocking to find that obesity has become an epidemic in literal sense?. The obesity epidemic condition in America outweighs the gravity of the problem in every country in the world bringing forth health hazards which proclaim National emergency in the frontline.

While obesity epidemic is frequent in both children and adults, the drawback of the condition is obese children who turn adults gaining heart diseases, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer, at an earlier age than previous generations.

In the case of American obesity epidemic the cause is related to bad eating habits. Fast foods, tinned, canned and packeted food items are nothing but culprits in this case. Other common patterns such as excessive eating, watching too much television, sleeping too much and lack of physical exercise are the main causes of the obesity epidemic.

From recently many obese people have gathered around the idea of obesity epidemic as being a genetic condition. While genetics can play a role in weight gaining process, the question mark lies in how a whole nation could become victim to an obesity epidemic which does not transmit through any means but only comes in to play through excessive eating and little physical exertion. However, it cannot be denied that environment plays a part in obesity which may make children of one generation heavier than the previous. Our environment also has to do with the kind of lifestyle we lead and what we involve in on a daily basis. These habits too can quite naturally be passed down to generations without our conscious notice or effort.

The sad part however is that statistically speaking, there s almost nothing that the world has done about obesity epidemic. The number of people suffering from the obesity epidemic gets recorded as higher as on each passing day.

I see it as an absurb notion to see how one group of people die due to lack of food and how another group is dying due to an excess of food So where should we draw the line between food and well being? And how often should we giving to temptations? Whatever said and done, at the end of the day, they are all individual choices!

Whatever your views on obesity, health or Diet issues, you can post your thoughts at the Health and Fitness Blog. You can also find more information and resources on Health & Fitness today at the Health And Exercise Website. Information on the world famous Atkins Diet can be found at the Atkins Diet Website.
