With more people engaging themselves in various tiring activities and therefore having little time to cook nutritious, healthy food at home and opting to eat fast food, there could be no confusion as to how a large number of people are suffering from obesity in America.

The main cause of obesity in America, is  the consumption of large amounts of food that are usually high in fat, as this leads to a person taking in much more calories than the body requires. Reduced or no physical activity could also have a large impact on such people as they consume more calories than they can burn. It has come to notice that hormonal disorders too contibute to obesity in some cases at which the suffer’s eating habits are not responsible.

Obesity in America could lead to various health terms and serious disorders. Severe depression and low self-esteem due to being overweight are two major implications of obesity in America. Serious diseases include heart disease and diabetes. In the most serious cases, obesity could even result in death.

Although fat cells are difficult to deal with scientists have come up with certain methodologies to combat the situation. Obesity in America could be treated and cured.  The most important aspects of comeback include getting back in to healthy diet and exercising regulaly. If these do not work for you however, you could consider surgery such as gastric bypass surgery or implanting an adjustable stomach band, but that is only if you are at least 100 pounds overweight and have a BMI over 40. There’s also a financial concern attached to all these surgical procedures because they come with a high cost.

These surgeries to treat obesity in America would be of no use if you do not undergo a change in lifestyle and eating habits. Therefore what you eat and how much you eat should be something you are always mindful of. You ought to make sure that kids lead a healthy lifestyle and get a healthy diet. A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), showed that by the age of 25, majority of kids who are overweight at 10-15 would become obese.

Causes Of Obesity

Friday, July 31st, 2009

People these days are much more busier these days to even think about their health and get rid of the extra fat they gain daily. This is specially the case with many Americans.  It is understood that they go through severe stress and sadness with a body mass index of well over 30.

There are many categories for causes of obesity. How often have you seen skinny and thin type of people gaining weight within couple of months and become extremely fat. This is due to a diagnosis course of another illness. With the medication given with it the person builds body’s availability to accommodate more food, hence will become over weighed in no time.

One of causes of obesity is the genetic influence. Some people tend to get it from the family. This kind of obesity is hard to deal with since our body becomes more available for food from the birth.

Many Americans and medical professionals in the country are still not willing to take obesity seriously. Even in documentary programs it is often seen the humor with an overly weighed person. Some of the serious effects of being over the normal body mass index would be the higher blood pressure and a sugar level.

The advertisements done regarding the fast food will tempt many people with their busy schedules to go for it. With excessive fat levels in those foods it is more than likely to be a cause of obesity. As the food organisations in USA or the medical governing bodies not willing to take their steps in to this matter, it is unlikely to be solved in the near future.

It is a fairly straightforward definition that the causes of obesity has. You gain weight when you gather more calories than what you dispose. Fast foods and very less exercises cause almost 6 million Americans to be overly weighed and have problems with their health. Easier ways to get rid of your excessive fat quantity would be to do simple exercise which involves several day to day activities.

A resisting force should be put in by you to prevent all the causes of obesity. After all it is about living a better and a longer life.

Epidemic Obesity

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Obesity epidemic is a term which describes the timely and accurate health condition caused by overweight populations around the world. Isn’t it shocking to find that obesity has become an epidemic in literal sense?. It is much more alarming to see that the condition in America outweights the severity of the conditions in all other countries in the world.

While obesity epidemic is common to both children and adults, the the darker side of the condition is obese children who turn adults gaining heart diseases, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer, at an earlier age than earlier generations.

Studies show that in America, the sole cause behind obesity epidemic is bad eating habits. Fast foods, tinned, canned and packeted food items are nothing but culprits in this case. Bad eating habits, excessive time spent watching television and lack of physical exercise all contribute to get obesity epidemic spread steadily across generations.

From recently many obese people have gathered around the idea of obesity epidemic as being a genetic condition. While genetics can play a role in weight gaining process, the question mark lies in how a whole nation could become victim to an obesity epidemic which does not transmit through any means but only comes in to play through excessive eating and little physical exertion. However, it cannot be denied that environment plays a part in obesity which may make children of one generation heavier than the previous. When we talk about the environment, it is crucial to look at the lifestyles we have acquired and the amount of exercise we get on a daily basis. These habits too can quite naturally be passed down to generations without our conscious notice or effort.

According to statistics, we see no progress in to curing this so called obesity epidemic. The numbers have not decreased over the years and the number of illnesses due to obesity epidemic is on the rise, each passing day.

I see it as an absurb notion to see how one group of people die due to lack of food and how another group is dying due to an excess of food So where should we draw the line between food and well being? And what do we do about the temptations and all those yummy dishes and sweets?   Whatever said and done, at the end of the day, they are all individual choices!

Bariatric Surgery

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Bariatric surgery, commonly known as weight loss surgery is the one and only relief for many Americans who suffer from many chronic diseases due to the extra amount of weight associated with fat.

For individuals who are unable to reach the required amount of weight reduction through diet and exercises this is the method which is considered to be the most effective. The major detection method applied is the body mass index of an individual. This is the measurement of the mass of someone’s in compared to the height of that person. If the scale is above the mid range the person is considered to be over weighed. If the doctor decides that the individual is not in a position to reduce his/her weight by a natural dieting or exercising method then the prescription for a bariatric surgery will be considered depending the seriousness of the situation.

However the risks and the side effects are not 100% neglected in doing a bariatric surgery, hence the requirement to consult the doctor about the factors is essential.

Making a bypass from the stomachal pathway is the key to this surgery. It will make sure that the person cannot eat larger quantities of meals and will get satisfied by eating smaller quantities.

For many Americans though the word “bariatric surgery” is still fairly new. Lack of knowledge and exposure to the instance has caused the less publication for the event. With many websites dedicated for medicine these days there is a fairly better chance that one might come across the word “bariatric surgery” more often than before. Many of these online sites will discuss about the requirement for such surgery and the way it is been done. Side effects of it and the danger involved in it will also be discussed to give the user a fairly widened knowledge on the subject.

There are special after surgery treatments done to minimize the effects of the surgery. THings such as food and nutrition plan, an exercise shedule will be given to the individual with a training to adjust to the new lifestlye.

The myths about the bariatric surgery will definitely be under a question mark with many people willing to make up their minds and go for a safer and healthier path. Search for the best place where you could get this surgery done without much hassle and give yourself a chance to be happy.

Mini Gastric Bypass

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Healthier diet and regular form of exercise is what you can do at best when you find that you are obese. However those classified as morbidly obese, the more severe stage of obesity where excess weight has accumulated as fatty tissue, are more likely to look into surgical procedures that will help them shed and control their body weight. Gastric bypass procedures are a group of standardized procedures that are developed to help morbidly obese people.

The first approach to gastric bypass surgery is mini gastric bypass or loop gastric. It is a function that staples the stomach and turns it into a sleeve. The idea is to create a smaller stomache and seal the rest of it allowing only small quantities of food to go in. The mini gastric bypass makes the stomach smaller so obese people will eat less and gain less weight as it restricts the intake of food and reduces the feeling of hunger.

As with any surgery the mini gastric bypass procedure also has its pros and cons. Ideally morbidly obese patients should lose up to 80% of excess body weight after gastric bypass surgery but it does not always become effective. Needless to say there is also a psychological and physiological impact on those who have gone through a mini gastric bypass surgery. Many suffer from depression during the following few months after surgery as their change in diet plays a role. Due to the restriction of food their energy levels will also be low. There are complications that may also follow after mini gastric bypass surgery such as anastomotic leakage, anastomotic stricture and anastomotic ulcer.

Due to its simpleness of construction that uses the loop reconstruction and has weakened the challenge of laparoscopic surgery, the mini gastric bypass is suggested as an substitute to the Roux en-Y procedure that is a commonly employed gastric bypass technique. Even though the mini gastric bypass procedure may seem like an attractive prospect for weight loss, it is always best to consult a medical professional for other options whether it is a surgical or non surgical alternative depending on the history of your health.

Morbid Obesity

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

The worst that can happen due to morbid obesity is going in for reduced life expectancy. So what is morbid obesity? It is having a body weight more than 50-100% than required or 100 pounds above the ideal body weight. Morbid Obesity can be diagnosed by having a BMI or Body Mass Index value that is greater than 39.

The exact cause of morbid obesity is unknown however there are several factors that contribute to having this medical condition such as metabolic and eating disorders, calorie intake, environmental, genetic and hereditary. Genetic factors do indeed play a vital role in the trend to be morbidly obese in that obesity is often viewed to run in families however, a family may share a similar life-style and food habits which can add to the cause of morbid obesity. Maladies such as Cushing’s syndrome, hypothyroidism, depression and other neurological problems can also lead to morbid obesity as well as the use of certain antidepressants and steroids.

{Obesity can cause problems in anyone whether it is men, women, teenagers or children. It makes physical activity more difficult and increases the risk of developing severe health risks or worsening the health conditions that may already existMorbid obesity can affect anyone from any age group making it difficult for the peprson to involve in physical activity which eventually becomes a health hazard}. Coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, gout, diabetes, gallbladder disease, respiratory problems, cancer, and reproductive and fertility problems are some of the most common conditions that may rise due to morbid obesity. There is gender and age related differences in the various health problems that one might suffer from however the basic problem all morbid obese people suffer from is the means to safely control their ideal body weight.

Morbid obesity can certainly have a psychological and social effect on people as it brings upon emotional pain and suffering as many people don t understand the causes of obesity and society does not favor those who are very much overweight. In the United States obesity is the second leading cause of death effecting approximately 9 million adult Americans.

It is always best to consult a health care physician to determine treatment at an early stage of obesity before it causes severe health risks. The most obvious treatment for those who are within the obese category is a healthy diet and regular practice of exercise.

Warning Childhood Obesity Statistics

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Health problems such as obesity have become a major issue in America as well as the world. Childhood obesity statistics reveal staggering facts about the situation in America. The number keeps increasing each year and authorities are trying to take action to prevent it. But has it really resolved the issue?

As we have a closer look at the childhood obesity statistics, it could be noted that many parents who have suffered from being obese during their childhood years are more likely to give birth to children who will end up in a similar situation. The probability for it is actually around 80%; scary isn’t it?

Childhood obesity statistics also show us that almost 20% of children are obese. The most likely age category that obesity is seen is between 6 and 19 years of age. There was also the chance of around 15% of children who had a likelihood of ending up being overweight.

Every parent ought to know the seriousness of these childhood obesity statistics. If your child is obese, he or she may suffer from other health problems, in addition to mental dissatisfaction.

Caution must be taken as obesity not only affects the child or teenager but everyone around them. Being overweight or obese means that at a later age you won’t be fit enough to work, your health insurance would definitely be on the rise, and of course it would be a strain on the economy.

What can we do to stop these childhood obesity statistics in reaching a more negative level? Experts say that one of the most important things the parents of the child as well as the public can do is to understand the health and mental state the child is in.

Being obese can result in a child receiving looks from passer by’s making him or her feel self-conscious. Sometimes parents tend to scold the child for being overweight as they simply keep on eating without a limit. An over-indulgence in food is actually a habit obese children have. Scolding them is definitely not a good step. Instead of doing this, taking corrective measures such as finding a healthier and safe way to reduce their weight could be sought.

An important thing to be kept in mind is that your child won’t lose his or her weight in days. It will obviously take time.  If you want your child to be out of the childhood obesity statistics chart, best thing to do would be to make them eat healthy food instead of junk and have a closer watch on their health conditions.

Health Versus Obesity

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

When we think about health obesity is one of the primary causes that make the equation go wrong. Majority of health issues that can be seen in children and young adults either have to do with the food they consume or due to lack of physical exercise. Bad food habits such as eating junk day in and day out plus lack of physical exercises to burn calories both sum up to health obesity issues.

Sadly, while more than half a population of kids starve to death or are food deprived, there s another fraction of kids that suffer from obesity epidemic due to excessive consumption of food. Due to some bizarre reason, many people don t seem to consider excessive eating and being overweight as a health hazard. A common denomination for bad food habits start from parents and it gets passed down to kids who also end up being obese.

From recently, health obesity issues have cropped alarmed parents, children and medical practitioners alike. Researchers predict that we are likely to experience health obesity issues due to an overweight generation. How do you think it will affect the world if all young adults start falling ill of one chronic condition or the other? What if the mortality rate of premature deaths increases? What will happen to the population of the world and its balance?  Are we heading towards man made human catastrophies?

It is indicated that more than 300,000 American deaths happen due to health obesity issues; the more overweight a person is the more at risk he/she may be.  Heart diseases such as heart attacks, congestive heart failure, angina, chest pain to name a few the most challenging conditions that people suffer from today.

Another aspect of health obesity has to do with the psychological well being of the person and his/her self esteem. Many over-weight individuals try to pretend that they are happy but deep inside they d either suffer from low self esteem or feel bad about eating. Over eating also become a habit for some people and when they lose hope and self esteem, they will continue to neglect themselves.  There is another type of health obesity sufferers who take up excessive eating in order to combat depression. But sadly, over eating is by no means an answer to depression.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Having excess amounts of fat in our bodies can lead to various health conditions such as high blood pressure, increased cholesterol, heart attacks, etc. Being obese can have adverse effects in your life. Your weight can result in a reduced life expectancy level. You obviously wouldn’t want that happening when there are ways of getting that excess fat removed.

A gastric bypass surgery is a famous operation that is carried out to remove excess fat from the body. It is especially done for people suffering from morbid obesity. Once the surgery is done, patients feel that their stomach is full, even when they eat a little.

Doing a gastric bypass surgery means that the stomach and intestinal system will be restructured. This will in turn make you feel like your stomach is already full, thus resulting in your body absorbing less calories.

The gastric bypass surgery is actually a simple process that will require a person to stay in the hospital for 2 or 6 days. Within three or five weeks, you’d be able to recommence your usual activities.

Studies show that most individuals who do the gastric bypass surgery lose around 60% to 80% of their excess body fat and thus their weight. This loss of weight can occur between the first six months and can continue for the years that follow up.

Being obese could mean that you are either a diabetic person or else suffer from high blood pressure. Since the gastric bypass surgery removes the excess fat out of the body, such health situations could also be minimized or eliminated.

There are also a few disadvantages when it comes to gastric bypass surgery. Since the whole operation is irreversible, your body will be permanently changed and the way your body digests food will be quite different from other people. When the body’s ability of absorbing food is restructured, he or she can start to have nutritional deficiencies leading to osteoporosis, anemia, etc. In addition to this, having undigested stomach contents move in too quickly to the intestines could result in ‘dumping syndrome’.

American Obesity

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

The latest epidemic to hit america is obesity and the situation has become worse than ever. Why has American obesity become an epidemic? Is it inevitable that American parents and children remain just the right weight? If you speak with an American, you will see how concerned they are about the calorie intake. They almost always check the nutritional description on any cereal or box of food to double check the quantity they should consume. This is something you will see no Japanese or Indian do. So why is American obesity still up there at a sky high range threatening national health?

Some people who form a part of American obesity circle claim that they did not become fat or overweight on their own accord. They say that they do not enjoy being the clothes size which reads triple X plus but, they also claim that the fault is solely not on their part. According to economists, the more overweight an American is, the better it is for the country s economy. How can this be true? It turns out that changes in food technology where food is modified to be tastier, easier to cook all contribute to the cause.
Experts also claim that changed lifestyle patterns too are responsible for this American obesity disaster. Decades ago, people got paid in the workplace for the physical effort they contributed at work but nowadays, people pay gymnasiums in order to shed a few tears and burn calories after work.

Some people also point the finger at women s rights movement from which house wives in charge of the kitchen and healthy cooking have turned in to busy business women or professionals. According to this theory if women remained in the kitchens preparing their own meals and looking after the family’s nutritional requirements, industry giants in the food industry would have not been able to rise up in the sky and destroy a healthy nation.

American obesity has become the headline makers around the world and it has become the worry of many policy makers. The question now is who’d make things work differently for American obesity issue? What do policy makers say about American obesity and how can they bring about a change in society? All this is a humongous challenge to Americans today!
