Mini Gastric Bypass as A Treatment For Obesity

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Once someone is classified as being obese they will certainly look to treatment that will help them regain their ideal body weight such as a healthier diet and regular form of exercise. But naother segment classified as morbidly obese where the excess far has accumulated in the fatty tissues seek surgical procesures to lose weight. Gastric bypass procedures are a group of standardized surgical operations that are developed to help morbidly obese people.

The first approach to gastric bypass surgery is mini gastric bypass or loop gastric. It is a function that staples the stomach and turns it into a sleeve. The idea is to create a smaller stomache and seal the rest of it allowing only small quantities of food to go in. As a result, obese people will tend to consume less and will absorb lesser amounts of food in to the body.

As with any surgery the mini gastric bypass procedure also has its pros and cons. Ideally morbidly obese patients should lose up to 80% of excess body weight after gastric bypass surgery but it does not always become effective. Needless to say there is also a psychological and physiological impact on those who have gone through a mini gastric bypass surgery. Many suffer from depression during the following few months after surgery as their change in diet plays a role. Due to the restriction of food their energy levels will also be low. There are complications that may also follow after mini gastric bypass surgery such as anastomotic leakage, anastomotic stricture and anastomotic ulcer.

Due to its ease of structure that uses the loop reconstruction and has reduced the challenge of laparoscopic surgery, the mini gastric bypass is suggested as an alternative to the Roux en-Y procedure that is a commonly employed gastric bypass technique. The choice of going in for a mini gastric bypass surgery should never be taken alone. A medical practitioner should recommend it and you should come to terms with implications of it before even considering the possibility..

Excessive Eating Causing Obesity Is A Serious Health Hazard

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

When we think about health, obesity is one of the primary causes that make the equation go wrong. Majority of health issues that can be seen in children and young adults either have to do with the food they consume or due to lack of physical exercise. Health obesity issues crop up due to lack of physical exercises to burn the excess calorie intake.

Sadly, while more than half a population of kids starve to death or are food deprived, there s another fraction of kids that suffer from obesity epidemic due to excessive consumption of food. Thus far, and surprisingly not many people have though of over eating as a health hazard. A common denomination for bad food habits start from parents and it gets passed down to kids who also end up being obese.

From recently, health obesity issues have cropped alarmed parents, children and medical practitioners alike. Researchers predict that we are likely to experience health obesity issues due to an overweight generation. How do you think it will affect the world if all young adults start falling ill of one chronic condition or the other? What if the mortality rate of premature deaths increases? What will happen to the population of the world and its balance? Are we about to see a world with orphans or maybe a world without any children at all?

According to a research more than 300,000 Americans pass away each year due to health obesity related causes; the more overweight a person is the more at risk he/she may be. Similarly, heart diseases such as heart attacks, congestive heart failure, angina, chest pain are the common culprits that cause death in many people who are at risk from health obesity.

Health obesity also ruptures psychological well being by hampering one’s self esteem. Many individuals pretend that everything is fine when they suffer deep down inside about the health obesity issue that they see in the mirror everyday. On another ground, they may neglect themselves where they would keep on eating although they know that overweight will bring forth health issues. Another group of obese people eat more and more in order to get over feeling bad but the case is that depression cannot be combatted by overeating. So now is time for some change!.

Gastric Bypass Surgery Studies Show A 70% Excess Body Fat Loss

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

When our bodies have excess amounts of fat, it gets accumulated to an extent where there can be adverse effects on our health. Do you want to live a richer and fuller life? Anyone would want to. But if you think you are on the bulkier side, steps taken to reduce weight would have to be done starting from now. You obviously don’t want to have a reduced life expectancy.

Whilst there are different kinds of procedures carried out to lose weight, etc, the gastric bypass surgery is an operation carried out to treat morbid obesity. Simply stated, a gastric bypass surgery makes an individual’s stomach smaller. Once a person completes the surgery, he or she will feel like the stomach is already full even when a less amount of food is consumed. This makes your body absorb only a few calories.

The fewer calories absorbed, the more weight you will lose. Isn’t gastric bypass surgery beneficial in that way? When a person does a gastric bypass surgery, it means that the stomach and the intestinal system are restructured. This restricts a person’s ability of consuming large amounts of food.

A usual gastric bypass surgery requires a person to stay at a hospital for around two to six days. This of course depends on the type of procedure carried out for the surgery. Recommencement of normal activities can generally be done within three to five weeks.

Losing weight has never been this easy. Many people who have done the gastric bypass surgery say that their weight loss accounts to around 70% of their total body fat. Results can normally be seen between the first few months.

Being obese could mean that you are either a diabetic person or else suffer from high blood pressure. Since the gastric bypass surgery removes the excess fat out of the body, such health situations could also be minimized or eliminated.

Even though the gastric bypass surgery is advantageous for people who are obese, there can be pitfalls for some people. Going through this operation means that your stomach and intestinal system will be permanently restructured. Some individuals tend to suffer from various nutritional deficiencies. In addition to this, they could suffer from ‘dumping syndrome’; a condition that arises when the undigested contents in the stomach move into the intestines too quickly.

Obesity (Sad) Facts

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

There is a new obsession in the world today. And that obsession is about weight. And with good enough reason as research says that one in every three American between the ages of 20 and 74 is overweight, which is about 58 million of the people in the country. What is the difference between being overweight and being obese? Let’s look at some obesity facts.

Being overweight basically means having excess body weight in the form of muscle, fat, water and bone in the body. This is when your weight is considered to be above the average weight of a person with your same height, age and general build. Being obese, on the other hand, is when only your body fat is measured in comparison to another person of the same gender, height and build and then rated. There are many people who could be considered overweight, but not obese. Practically however, the chances of an overweight person being obese are much higher.

Some obesity facts can be staggering. For example, the diseases that are shown to affect those who are obese is a very long list, and it shows clearly that obesity is pretty much the root cause for many health and psychological problems in the country today. For example, according to some obesity facts, obesity is said to almost double the risk of a person developing high blood pressure, and according to research, nearly 70% of the people affected by heart disease are said to be obese as well. These obesity facts are quite scary huh?

The causes for obesity can be many and varied. One very obvious answer would be the poor eating habits that some people tend to follow for reasons like convenience, cost and sometimes pure laziness. But there have been other obesity facts as well that have led to a person being obese. There are some anti depressant drugs that are said to have after effects of causing obesity in a person, while many disease conditions like hypothyroidism has also caused people to gain weight suddenly and become obese. Another factor that could lead to obesity has been shown to be genetics. Many obesity facts show that for some reason or the other, there are a few of us who are more inclined towards being overweight and obese than others.

Obesity In USA

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Obesity is a problem faced by both children and adults alike, worldwide. Obesity is mouting up sky high every year. With more people engaging themselves in various tiring activities and therefore having little time to cook nutritious, healthy food at home and opting to eat fast food, there could be no confusion as to how a large number of people are suffering from obesity in America.

The main cause of obesity in America, is  the consumption of large amounts of food that are usually high in fat, as this leads to a person taking in much more calories than the body requires. On top of over eating, people gain no workout which adds up to the misery. It has come to notice that hormonal disorders too contibute to obesity in some cases at which the suffer’s eating habits are not responsible.

Obesity in America could lead to various health conditions and serious disorders. These health conditions include the patient suffering from severe depression and low self-esteem due to their size, who would therefore find it extremely difficult to lead a normal life as their social standing could be affected. Serious diseases include heart disease and diabetes. In the most serious cases, obesity could even result in death.

Although fat cells are difficult to deal with scientists have come up with certain methodologies to combat the situation. Obesity in America could be treated and cured.  The most important aspects of comeback include getting back in to healthy diet and exercising regulaly. Other choices included gastric bypass surgery or implanting an adjustable stomach, but that is only if you are at least 100 pounds overweight and have a BMI over 40. It should be noted that these treatments come at a high cost, which means that you should be aware of your financial status before contemplating surgery.

If obesity in America is to be changed, a life style change is essential. Therefore what you eat and how much you eat should be something you are always mindful of. Ensure that your children lead a healthy lifestyle too as obesity is common among children as well. A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), showed that by the age of 25, majority of kids who are overweight at 10-15 would become obese.

Epidemic Obesity

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Obesity epidemic is a term which describes the timely and accurate health condition caused by overweight populations around the world. Isn’t it shocking to find that obesity has become an epidemic in literal sense?. The obesity epidemic condition in America outweighs the gravity of the problem in every country in the world bringing forth health hazards which proclaim National emergency in the frontline.

While obesity epidemic is frequent in both children and adults, the drawback of the condition is obese children who turn adults gaining heart diseases, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer, at an earlier age than previous generations.

Studies show that in America, the sole cause behind obesity epidemic is bad eating habits. The all in one food packs and easy to use canned food as well as take away outlets that are the homeland for food junkies can be pin pointed as the main culprits of obesity epidemic. Other common patterns such as excessive eating, watching too much television, sleeping too much and lack of physical exercise are the main causes of the obesity epidemic.

From recently many obese people have gathered around the idea of obesity epidemic as being a genetic condition. While genetics can play a role in weight gaining process, the question mark lies in how a whole nation could become victim to an obesity epidemic which does not transmit through any means but only comes in to play through excessive eating and little physical exertion. However, it cannot be denied that environment plays a part in obesity which may make children of one generation heavier than the previous. Our environment also has to do with the kind of lifestyle we lead and what we involve in on a daily basis. These habits too can quite naturally be passed down to generations without our conscious notice or effort.

According to statistics, we see no progress in to curing this so called obesity epidemic. The number of people suffering from the obesity epidemic gets recorded as higher as on each passing day.

I see it as an absurb notion to see how one group of people die due to lack of food and how another group is dying due to an excess of food So where should we draw the line between food and well being? And how often should we giving to temptations?   Whatever said and done, at the end of the day, they are all individual choices!

Obesity Chart

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Do you want to hear anyone calling you obese?. It isn t merely being called fat but being referred to as having uncontrollable body weight issues that are above average and now pose as a severe risk to the health. However, with the help of obesity charts, you can determine where you stand without going in to unnecessary trouble.

Obesity charts are also known as BMI charts and they indicate the perfect weight one should have depending on the body mass index. The BMI does not directly calculate body fat but it is very closely correlated to measures of body fat that takes into consideration a person s height and weight and uses a mathematical formula to calculate a result. the best thing about BMI charts or obesity charts is that it can be used regardless of one’s age, nationality, gender or ethnicity to determine if you are out of proportion to your ideal size.

Although the most famous type of obesity charts is the BMI calculator, there are many other varieties that you could use to determine accurate results. The important thing in here is to understand what the charts predict. Some charts offer readers with various info on how to read an obesity chart while some other charts have figures displayed in tableau vivant format for readers to go through. The obesity chart is the ideal indicator for people to find out where they stand on the weight scale as it also gives people their privacy to find out if they are certainly obese.

After you get hold of the results then it is time to interpret it and you should know how to get about doing it accurately. The obesity chart is certainly valid for both men and women however they are only approximated values but do indeed have some limitations such as the body fat can be overestimated in those who have muscular build like athletes and it may underestimate the body fat in those who have lost muscle mass such as older people. Someone who is completely healthy can be seen to have an  unhealthy BMI.

We all know that obesity comes coupled up with health risks. Therefore, it is always a good idea to check your BMI using an obesity chart to stay safe.

Obesity Surgery

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable deaths in America. Often obesity leads to health problems such as diabetes and heart disease. The aim of obesity surgery, also known as weight loss surgery or bariatric surgery is to limit the amount of your food intake. Surgery can be carried out in several ways, the most common being gastric bypass surgery and implanting a stomach band.

Gastric bypass surgery, one form of obesity surgery, is a fast way to lose weight and is mostly recommended for patients who have a risk of suffering from heart damage or other serious health problems. Unfortunately, only a fraction of society can undergo this surgery if they come out safe from the screening process carried out by specialists. Certain conditions will have to be met before the surgery to ensure that the patient is in proper psychological and medical state to carry out the surgery. It reduces the amount of calories that can be absorbed by the person, thereby limiting the amount of food a person can eat as the stomach will only be able to hold very little.

Another method of obesity surgery you could consider, which is safer, but nevertheless gives good results is the adjustable stomach band which is implanted in the stomach usually by laparoscopic surgery. It can be reversed by surgeons if necessary. This method too, limits the amount of food that can be consumed. This is best for children. Side-effects such as nausea or abdominal pain can be suffered by the patient following the implanting of the band.

You should consider obesity surgery if you ve tried unsuccessfully to shed pounds by exercising and by trying out various diets. It is recommended that you consider surgery if you are 100 pounds over your ideal weight and if you have a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 40.

In order to keep the weight off of you after obesity surgery would have to change your lifestyle so that you would not fall back into gaining weight. This would mean that you have to keep exercising and maintaining your diet.

Here are a few points to notes before obesity surgery. Ensure that you are financially ready as you may have to visit your doctor for several follow-up appointments and even before the surgery and insurance may not cover all costs. Also remember that due to the lifestyle changes one would have to undergo, this could lead to stress and other psychological problems for a few months after the obesity surgery. You should remember, however, that the surgery does have it risks and side effects. Risks may include infections and hernias.
