Bodybuilding Basics

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

One of my readers, Oliver Wolter, gave me the link to his site on bodybuilding and fitness basics, bodybuilding-fitness.de. Wolter’s site is in German, but with Google’s translation service I was able to get a look at a number of pages of this site.

The site on bodybuilding reminds me of a conversation I had with a female exchange student from Germany who has enjoyed playing several sports during her year in the U.S. She commented that young men in Germany do not work out as much as the young men in the U.S. She wished that German high school students had more access to bodybuilding equipment and paid more attention to their physical appearance and to strength in sports like American young men do.

I see Wolter’s site as a good first step in raising the awareness of young men in Germany to how bodybuilding can improve appearance and strengthen the arms, abs and legs for fitness. He talks about using bodybuilding equipment to achieve these improvements, not use of enhancement drugs. I heartily approve of Wolter’s approach to the topic of bodybuilding and feel that those German-speaking adults and teens who want to learn the basics of safe and fitness-enhancing bodybuilding will benefit from bodybuilding-fitness.de and the free report that is available at this site.

Obesity Statistics Prove We Have No Self Control Over Our Eating Habits

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Obesity in America is so bad that it has been called an epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a person is deemed to be obese if he has a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above. This means that the person consumes more food than is required by the body and does not burn enough calories. As a result the person would suffer from diabetes, heart disease and metabolic syndrome to name a few. The main causes of obesity are said to be unhealthy eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. A decrease in physical activity results in lower calories being burnt. However hormone deficiencies could also lead to obesity.

The obesity statistics are somewhat staggering. It is said that virtually two-thirds of American adults above the age of 20 , that is 66 percent of the population, are said to be obese, according to results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) . Out of these obesity statistics, 33 percent are said to be women whereas only 30 percent are said to be men. Another survey by NHANES shows that the prevalence rates of children aged between 2 to 5 years has increased from 5 percent to 13.9 percent over the last few years. Children too face the obesity epidemic and their future seems not too bright as CDC researches predict that by the time these children reach the age of 25, they’d become obese.

Based on obesity statistics by the National Institutes of Health, obesity is the second leading cause of death that can be prevented, in America. This is only exceeded by tobacco. An estimated 300, 000 deaths are said to be caused as a result of obesity each year. Diabetes too is very common among obese people bringing about more complication to their health. 80 percent of those suffering from type 2 diabetes are said to be related to obesity according to obesity statistics by the Wellness International Network Limited.

These obesity statistics from America are quite scary to begin with and that is why the situation has been named an apidemic. If people could become more careful and aware of the implications and adapt new lifestyles that are healthier on their food habits and the amount of exercises they receive, perhaps obesity statistics will start changing?.

An Obesity Epidemic In Adults And Children

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Obesity epidemic is a term which describes the timely and accurate health condition caused by overweight populations around the world. Isn’t it shocking to find that obesity has become an epidemic in literal sense?. The obesity epidemic condition in America outweighs the gravity of the problem in every country in the world bringing forth health hazards which proclaim National emergency in the frontline.

While obesity epidemic is frequent in both children and adults, the drawback of the condition is obese children who turn adults gaining heart diseases, diabetes, arthritis and even cancer, at an earlier age than previous generations.

In the case of American obesity epidemic the cause is related to bad eating habits. Fast foods, tinned, canned and packeted food items are nothing but culprits in this case. Other common patterns such as excessive eating, watching too much television, sleeping too much and lack of physical exercise are the main causes of the obesity epidemic.

From recently many obese people have gathered around the idea of obesity epidemic as being a genetic condition. While genetics can play a role in weight gaining process, the question mark lies in how a whole nation could become victim to an obesity epidemic which does not transmit through any means but only comes in to play through excessive eating and little physical exertion. However, it cannot be denied that environment plays a part in obesity which may make children of one generation heavier than the previous. Our environment also has to do with the kind of lifestyle we lead and what we involve in on a daily basis. These habits too can quite naturally be passed down to generations without our conscious notice or effort.

The sad part however is that statistically speaking, there s almost nothing that the world has done about obesity epidemic. The number of people suffering from the obesity epidemic gets recorded as higher as on each passing day.

I see it as an absurb notion to see how one group of people die due to lack of food and how another group is dying due to an excess of food So where should we draw the line between food and well being? And how often should we giving to temptations? Whatever said and done, at the end of the day, they are all individual choices!

The Blame For Child Obesity Lies With The parents Or Carers

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Health problems such as obesity have become a major issue in America as well as the world. Childhood obesity statistics reveal staggering facts about the situation in America. The number keeps increasing each year and authorities are trying to take action to prevent it. But has it really resolved the issue?

As we have a closer look at the childhood obesity statistics, it could be noted that many parents who have suffered from being obese during their childhood years are more likely to give birth to children who will end up in a similar situation. The probability for it is actually around 80%; scary isn’t it?

Recent surveys carried out to collect childhood obesity statistics show that around 20% of children, accounting to more than 10 million of the total population, are obese. These children are of the age category 6 to 19 years old. In addition to this, there were around 15% of children who were considered to be at risk of being overweight.

Every parent ought to know the seriousness of these childhood obesity statistics. If your child is obese, he or she may suffer from other health problems, in addition to mental dissatisfaction.

Obesity causes a lot of problems to the person who suffers from it. It can affect them as well as the people around them. If you are an obese person, your situation can have an adverse effect on your work life and increase your health insurance among many other things.

It’s true that each year the childhood obesity statistics we see seems to keep increasing, showing negative results all the time. As parents and the public, what can we do to minimize this situation? One thing that anyone can do is try to understand the health and mental state the child is in.

Have you been scolding your child for their terrible eating habits? It may be true that their eating habits can be the reason for them to be so obese, but scolding them is not going to get you anywhere. There are so many health programs known to be effective for obese children. Enrolling them in one could help them regain their physical fitness as well as their self-esteem.

An important thing to be kept in mind is that your child won’t lose his or her weight in days. It will obviously take time. If you want your child to be out of the childhood obesity statistics chart, best thing to do would be to make them eat healthy food instead of junk and have a closer watch on their health conditions.

The Latest Epidemic To Hit America Is Obesity

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

The latest epidemic to hit america is obesity and the situation has become worse than ever. Can anyone say how American Obesity is now an epidemic? Is it inevitable that American parents and children remain just the right weight? If you speak with an American, you will see how concerned they are about the calorie intake. They almost always check the nutritional description on any cereal or box of food to double check the quantity they should consume. This is something you will see no Japanese or Indian do. So why is American obesity still up there at a sky high range threatening national health?

Some people who form a part of American obesity circle claim that they did not become fat or overweight on their own accord. They say that they do not enjoy being the clothes size which reads triple X plus but, they also claim that the fault is solely not on their part. But the economists see a different point of view which shocks the public which states that America being obese is healthy on the economy.
Experts also claim that changed lifestyle patterns too are responsible for this American obesity disaster. Decades ago, people got paid in the workplace for the physical effort they contributed at work but nowadays, people pay gymnasiums in order to shed a few tears and burn calories after work.

Another group of people put the blame on women becoming independant from which the whole family routine has changed where fast food routines are concerned. According to this theory if women remained in the kitchens preparing their own meals and looking after the family’s nutritional requirements, industry giants in the food industry would have not been able to rise up in the sky and destroy a healthy nation.

American obesity is surely hitting the headlines around the world and is worrying many health practitioners. After a few decades of living on fast food, what can experts do to control American obesity? What do policy makers say about American obesity and how can they bring about a change in society? All this is a humongous challenge to Americans today!

Bad Food Habits Creating Obesity In America

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Obesity is a problem faced by both children and adults alike, worldwide. Obesity is mouting up sky high every year. With the busy scheduled life styles and with more and more people preparing little healthy food and finding alternatives in fast food junk yarks or from ready made canned food, it is not surprising how a whole nation has got down to being obese within such a little period of time.

The major culprit of obesity in America is food habits in which people consume more than is required by the body. Reduced or no physical activity could also have a large impact on such people as they consume more calories than they can burn. It has come to notice that hormonal disorders too contibute to obesity in some cases at which the suffer’s eating habits are not responsible.

Obesity in America could lead to various health conditions and serious diseases. Severe depression and low self-esteem due to being overweight are two major implications of obesity in America. Serious diseases include heart disease and diabetes. In the most serious cases, obesity could even result in death.

Although fat cells are difficult to deal with scientists have come up with certain methodologies to combat the situation. Obesity in America could be treated and cured. This would require a strict diet and vigorous exercises to help you shed the pounds. If these do not work for you however, you could consider surgery such as gastric bypass surgery or implanting an adjustable stomach band, but that is only if you are at least 100 pounds overweight and have a BMI over 40. It should be noted that these treatments come at a high cost, which means that you should be aware of your financial status before contemplating surgery.

If obesity in America is to be changed, a life style change is essential. Therefore what you eat and how much you eat should be something you are always mindful of. Ensure that your children lead a healthy lifestyle too as obesity is common among children as well. A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), showed that by the age of 25, majority of kids who are overweight at 10-15 would become obese.

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Do you want to hear anyone calling you obese?. It isn’t merely being called fat but being referred to as having uncontrollable body weight issues that are above average and now pose as a severe risk to the health. However, with the help of obesity charts, you can determine where you stand without going in to unnecessary trouble.

The obesity chart could also be referred to as the BMI or Body Mass Index chart as it gives an approximate calculation of a person s current weight and not merely stating if someone is obese. The BMI does not directly calculate body fat but it is very closely correlated to measures of body fat that takes into consideration a person s height and weight and uses a mathematical formula to calculate a result. The obesity chart shows the possible variations of height and weight in order to calculate a person s BMI and can be used by anyone regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender or age.

The most commonly used obesity chart is the BMI calculator however there are many other types of obesity charts available but it is best to find a chart where you would be able to understand without difficulty. Some charts provide readers with various info on how to read an obesity chart while other charts have numbers displayed in tableau format for readers to go through. The obesity chart is the ideal index for people to find out where they are on the weight scale as it also gives people their privacy to find out if they are certainly obese.

After determining a person s BMI the next step is to interpret the calculated result. If the result places you in the obese range it is always advisable to seek medical confirmation too. The obesity chart is certainly valid for both men and women however they are only approximated values but do indeed have some limitations such as the body fat can be overestimated in those who have muscular build like athletes and it may underestimate the body fat in those who have lost muscle mass such as older people. Someone who is completely healthy can be seen to have an unhealthy BMI.
