Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I attend a weight loss class. we are having a potluck. can only bring healthy foods, that are low sugar and low fat. I need some ideas. we are all burned out on fruit and vegies.

Hearty Supper Stew

16 ounces (1 lb) ground 90% lean turkey or beef
3 cups (15 ounces) indian generic viagra sliced raw potato
1 1/2 cup chopped celery
2 cups sliced carrots
1 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 cups frozen peas
1 3/4 cups (one 15 ounce can) Hunts Chunky Tomato Sauce (regular works fine too)
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

In a large skillet sprayed with butter-flavored cooking spray, brown meat. Meanwhile in a slow cooker, combine potatoes, celery, carrots, onion, and peas. Spoon browned meat over vegetables. In a small bowl, combine tomato
sauce and Italian seasonings. Evenly pour sauce over meat. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours. Mix well before serving.

This recipe is hearty and is only 234 calories per serving.

Here is a low-sugar dessert as well…8 servings at 206 calories per serving:

Butter Pecan Layer Pie

1 (6 oz) Keebler graham cracker pie crust
1 (4 serving) pkg sugar-free instant butterscotch pudding mix
2/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 1/4 cup water
3/4 oz (3 Tablespoons) chopped pecans
1 (8 oz) pkg fat-free cream cheese
Sugar substitute to equal 2 Tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup Cool Whip Lite
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a medium bowl combine dry pudding mix and dry milk powder. Add water. Mix well using a wire whisk. Stir in 2 Tablespoons chopped pecans. Pour into pie crust. In a medium bowl stir cream cheese with a spoon until soft. Add sugar substitute, Cool Whip Lite and vanilla extract. Mix gently to combine. Spread evenly over butterscotch layer. Sprinkle remaining 1 Tablespoon chopped pecans evenly over top. Serves 8.

How much protein should a female consume for weight loss?

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I've been working out consistently for about a year, but my weight loss has been really slow. I've only lost about 15-18lbs. I've also changed my diet and started eating a lot healthier. I haven't been intaking much protein and I believe that is a reason why my weight loss has been slow. How much protein should I take to speed up my weight loss? Are there any recipes, shakes or vitamins I should be taking?
I workout at least 3-4x a week. On average I'm at the gym for 1hr. – 1.5hrs. I've been attending inderal 40 mg the RPM & Body Pump classes at least 2x a week. On the other days I'm doing cardio and weightlifting. I also do resistence training.

Protein: Beans, lean meats such as boneless skinless chicken and fish, peanut butter (about 1 tablespoon for a serving), etc…

Lean Protein should make up about 40% of your daily nutritional intake per day. 30% is for whole grains. 20% is for fruits & vegetables. 10% is for fat.
