Any suggestions on a diet plan or good recipe websites that can help with weight gain and weight loss?

My husband is trying to loose weight. He has a bad back and the weight that he carries in his stomach is causing back problems. He is not big into exercise so I need to find foods that I can fix to help him loose the extra pounds. I feel that if he looses some weight he will have more energy to excericse. The problem is that I need to put on weight. We are extreme opposites. I want to put on good weight though. Not the weight that can be put on by Big Mac's…..although that sounds like a good way to put on weight, but that is not a diet that will benefit my husband or myself as well.

Hi,

Does your husband desire to loose weight?? If not, your work will be in vane, but if he wants to do this as well, I know of a good idea.
Eat a healthy balanced diet, but cut down on portion size. Eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but don't eat untill full (stuffed), that only stretches your stomach and causes it to become bigger…everytime a person eats untill stuffed the stomach gets bigger and bigger everytime, because each time you are stuffing the already growing stomach for the feeling of fullness (stuffed).
He should eat a portion that will cause him to be satisfied, not full. If he gets hungry in between, he should have a peice of fruit or something else heathy to curb the hunger pangs, but just enough to curb them.
If you can get him to just walk around the block either in the mornings after breakfast,, or after dinner, as kinda like a family thing, it will help alot as well. Just as little as walking will do wonders. If he likes to go look at the cars at the car dealerships, you can take him and walk around there, to where his mind is on what he likes.
Oh, and try not to go out to eat…the servings at restaraunts are outragous now a days…it is food for like 2 or 3 people depending on where you go.
For you, how old are you? If you are a teen or a young adult, you may just have a fast motabilism. If you have no children yet, that too might be why you are slim. If that is the case, be happy with your skinnyness while you can, because as you get older or after you have kids you will not have the matabolism you once did, and my wish you could go back. That is what happend to me. LOL. If you are eating a well balanced diet and can't gain weight and you think there is a medical problem, please go see your doc, but if you are healthy and slim, that might just be how God created you to be:) Just remember don't change your body to please anyone else, that is the main reason people are trying to loose weight or gain weight, because they feel it is more excepted. The only reason a person should be trying to loose weight or gain weight is if it is due to health. It also can help with self esteem if a person is overweight and with quality of life, but otherwise be happy with who you are. God made everyone beautiful in their own way…different is beautiful. God bless.

share your favorite low fat weight loss RECIPE – easy ones please, i have kids and no time?

Friday, September 5th, 2008

i'll share my favorite with you,

you will need:
grilled chicken breast
1 can of tomatoes (i use tomatoes with basil and oregano)
1 box of pasta roni parmesan pasta (found by the boxed macaroni and cheese)
milk (i use fat free)
margerine or butter

take the grilled chicken breast and place in a pan
spoon (drained) tomatoes on top of the chicken breast
place in the oven on 350 untill chicken and tomatoes are hot

while chicken is heating, follow pasta intructions on the back of the box. instead of using 2 tbs of margerine use 1. It still taste just as good. Usually by the time the pasta is finished, the chicken is done. FOLLOW SERVING INTRUCTIONS WITH THE PASTA, OR YOU CAN REALLY GET IN TROUBLE WITH HIGH CALORIES. follow proper portion size this meal should be about 350 calories

-We buy bags of chicken breast and cook them on the grill all at once. The chicken freezes very well, and I always have grilled chicken on hand. It really adds flavor to low fat meals!

Honey…pasta roni is not even remotely something you should be eating if you want to lose weight. Instead…eat a veggie like green beans, peas etc.

Easy Living Low-Carb Cooking is the first book to be published by CarbSmart. From Theresa: As a mid-thirties mother of two, I’ve tried every “diet” plan known to man. Until now, my success rate has almost always been nil. Now, I don’t “diet”. I made a “lifestyle change” which has resulted in placing me on the steady track of a thinner, healthier me (at the time of the first printing, I had lost 25 pounds in the course of just 2 short months). When I started watching my carbohydrate count instead of fat grams, I not only started losing inches, but everyone kept asking me, “What have you done? Your cheeks are so rosy and your hair is so thick and shiny.” This lifestyle has turned my life around. When I went to the doctor to get blood work done, my cholesterol levels and HDL levels were “wonderful”. The doctor couldn’t believe it! Tracy and I both realize that all of the “low-carb” diet plans available on the market today have been

Strawberry Banana Diet Smoothie Recipe
This smoothie recipe uses only a few simple ingredients but packs a lot of flavor and vitamins, as well as a decent amount of protein. Using a blender, mix together a banana, a cup of low-fat milk, a cup of ice, 3/4 cup non-fat yogurt, and five strawberries. This makes a nice thick smoothie, so it will help keep you full for a while and curb and cravings until your next meal. This smoothie contains about 240 calories, 1 gram o fat, and about 45 carbs.

Watermelon Smoothie
Watermelon lends itself well to any diet smoothie recipe because of its low fat and low calorie count. Combined with ice and any number of additional ingredients, such as low-fat milk, nonfat yogurt, or even a small quantity of lemon sherbet, you can make a very delicious, summery diet smoothie with a very low calorie count and virtually no fat.

Mixed Berry Smoothie
Mix together a cup of fresh or frozen berries. (A combination of blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries), a 1/2 cup of nonfat yogurt, and a 1/2 cup of water or nonfat milk. This type of smoothie is high in protein and other nutrients, and low in fat and calories.

Banana Smoothie:

8 ounces of non-fat milk or soy milk
2 Tablespoons Herbalife Vanilla Formula 1 Soy Protein Smoothie Mix
½ of a banana
4 to 6 ice cubes (optional)
Blend in a blender

Mocha Smoothie:

8 ounces non-fat milk or soy milk
2 Tablespoons Herbalife Vanilla Formula 1 Soy Protein Smoothie Mix
½ teaspoon Decaffeinated Instant Coffee
4 – 6 ice cubes (optional)
Stir or blend in blender

Black Forest Smoothie

8 ounces non-fat milk or soy milk
2 Tablespoons Herbalife Chocolate Formula 1 Soy Protein Smoothie Mix
½ Teaspoon Black Walnut Extract
½ Banana (optional)
4-6 ice cubes (optional)
Stir or blend in blender

If you have a blender, drink mixer, or small hand held mini mixer, it will save you time in your shake preparation. If not you can simply chop the fruit ingredients to very fine pieces to include in your smoothies.

I hope these were useful,Take Care!!! :)

Why do so many cyberspace recipie sites have weight loss ads?

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

I was searching cyberspace for a gingerbread cookie recipe.
Every site I hit, had an advertisement for some sort of weight loss product?
Is this supposed to encourage me to make GingerBread cookies.
Do people want to be reminded about their weight, while searching for Ginger Bread recipes?

Would this type of advertising make you more or less likely to try out cookie recipes?

because the sites like allrecipes.com, etc. sold there ad space to weight loss companies and the reason these companies want to advertise on the recipe sites is because they figure people looking for recipes eat and if they eat they could be trying to eat healthy and if they are trying to eat healthy then maybe they are a potential customer of theirs.

Need recipe for rapid weight loss cabbage soup?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Our neighbor talked about a diet involving all-you-want cabbage soup, and then staggering vegetables and fruits around that. A friend asked me for her recipe – now I can’t get in touch with the neighbor, and the friend wants the recipe before she leaves town in a few days.

Is anyone familiar with this diet, and if so – what is the recipe for that miraculous cabbage soup?

Thank you!

Cabbage soup diet.

Day 1: Cabbage soup and all the fruit you want except bananas. Drink unsweetened tea, black coffee, cranberry juice, or water.

Day 2: Cabbage soup, all the low-calorie vegetables you want (except beans, peas, or corn), and a baked potato with butter.

Day 3: Cabbage soup and a mixture of the above fruit and vegetables.

Day 4: Cabbage soup, up to eight bananas, and two glasses of skim milk.

Day 5: Cabbage soup, up to 20 ounces of beef, chicken or fish, up to six fresh tomatoes, and at least 6-8 glasses of water.

Day 6: Cabbage soup, up to 3 beef steaks, and unlimited vegetables.

Day 7: Cabbage soup, up to 2 cups of brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices, and unlimited vegetables.

The recipe for the cabbage soup varies slightly among different versions of the diet. But it basically includes cabbage and assorted low-calorie vegetables such as onions and tomatoes, and is flavored with onion soup mix, bouillon, and tomato juice.

Here’s a typical recipe:

1 package dry onion soup mix

2 bouillon cubes, either chicken or beef

1/2 head green cabbage, diced

3 carrots, sliced

2 bell peppers, sliced

6 large green onions, or 1 large yellow, white or purple onion, diced

2 cans of tomatoes, diced or whole

Cooking spray

Salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder, soy sauce to taste (or any other seasoning you like)

Spray a large pot with cooking spray and saute all vegetables except cabbage and tomatoes until tender. Add cabbage and about 12 cups of water. Toss in bouillon cubes, soup mix, and seasonings. Cook until soup reaches desired tenderness; add tomatoes. Salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder, soy sauce to taste (or any other seasoning you like)

What do you know about detox diets and weight loss?

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I'm interested in begining a detox diet that will greatly aide me in weight loss as well. Tips, suggestions and recipes are all very welcome! Thanks for your help! My goal here is to kick start me to help keep me motivated to loose the 90 pounds I'm aiming for.

It is a good idea to cleanse your body of some of the dodgy stuff. The best detox is fruit i think becasue it is essential that during the detox you still get the needed nutrients for your body. I also assume that eating fruit would give you much less calories than your used to so this would help in losing some weight.
the thing to remember bout weight loss is that is can not be done too fast. Starving your body of fuel will cause it to store food as fat, somewhat a survival mechanism. keeping your metabolism going with fruit will be a good start.
Once the detox is over start a all natural eating plan. only vegies fruit and meat that has not been processed, no packages. this will make so much difference to how you feel due to less preservatives, added sugar etc. it will also keep you on track for the goal you have.
good luck
