I need easy healthy recipes for losing weight!?

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I am 5'6 and 200 lbs. I am at my heaviest and I really want to lose weight. I am disgusted by myself. I have a really hard time sticking to a diet. I need some good tips on weight loss and some easy healthy recipes to try.

Try the no-flower, no-sugar diet. Just cut out any food with any kind of flower or sugar listed in the ingredients, including corn syrup. It's much healthier than the Atkins Diet, and if you're really craving carbs, just eat rice or oatmeal. Sugar substitutes are also fine. The diet works quickly, and it's very possible to keep the weight off. When you've reached your goal, just slowly add breads and sugar back in, and keep exercising.

Any good websites for weight loss with personalized menus?

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I want to lose some weight, but am kinda a picky eater. All the free sites I've found have crazy recipes with ingredients that I would never use. Does anyone know of any ones that are simplier or care more about what you like and don't like. In a perfect world, I'd love a site where I could go through and tell them the common things I don't enjoy, then they could give me healthy recipes that don't include them.

have you tried sparkspeople.com?

where can i find a great support group for weight loss?

Friday, September 12th, 2008

i would love to have a support group that i could be a part of. i'm starting to exercise and i want info, recipes, and people that are trying to lose weight with diet and exercise. i'm just starting and need to stay motivated. can someone recommend groups?

I totally recommend Weight Watchers. I started about a month ago. I am 20 years old and there were actually people there my age. The plans are incredibly easy to follow and the people there are struggling with the same weight issues as you. They also have an online program with recipes and all sorts of supportive stories. The Fast Food guide is a Godsend. Hope this helps.

smoothies for weight loss?

Friday, September 12th, 2008

i am looking for some homemade smoothie recipes for weight loss. which ones worked for u? any ideas? list ingredients and instructions please. thanks

Smoothies can be high in calories and carbs, both of which will cause weight gain.

I make this in the morning (for nutrition, not weight loss though it is low calorie):

1 banana (sliced, frozen) – potassium
1 cup of fresh orange juice (vitamin C)
1/2 cup of frozen berries (antioxidants)
1/2 cup of sliced, frozen mangoes and/or papaya (beta carotene)

Switch up your fruits and juices if you drink this regularly to maximize your nutrients.

Blend until smooth

What does everyone think of weight loss surgery?

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

I am having weight loss surgery November 27. I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (I sleep with a BiPap machine already) and it's getting worse and I am not losing weight fast enough for the Dr's and really need to have it. they said this will alleviate the problem and of course I will be thin again. So do any of you have any advice or stories about your WLS that you'd like to share with me? or possible recipes that you used.
Thanks in advance!

I think weight loss surgery for some is a good option. Most people that get weight loss surgery have to give 5 years of medically directed proof that they have attempted all forms of weight loss and not succeeded. I had an aunt and a cousin both who had weight loss surgery (gastric bypass). Both lost a lot of weight and 5+ years down the road are doing great with the weight still off. Good luck to you and I hope that your other health issues are improved after the surgery. Below are some links on weight loss surgery that you might read before your surgery. The second link is a book that was written. Please don't let the title bother you. I have read some of them for other things, and they can be quite good. Good luck.

I'm a community moderator at the site I'm referencing below. We have a few threads on weight loss surgery. If you want to come in and talk with others about your surgery, and especially let us know how your doing after surgery we would love to have you.

What is a good diet tea and weight loss fast?

Any Teas Or Fasting recipes for weight loss

Lose Weight with these Foods

Lose weight with sweet potatoes. These orange spuds contain cellulose and hemicelluloses, insoluble fibers that make you feel full faster so you eat less.

Burn fat with chili pepper. This spice is rich in capsaicin, a compound that speeds metabolism so pounds melt off faster.

Sneak more Omega 3 fatty acids, proven weightloss gems found in nuts, tuna and flaxseed – into your diet.

Skip sodas and opt for flavored milk and yogurt smoothies. Their calories come from healthy sources like dairy and fruit, not refined sugar.

Get rid of extra calories by sipping cranberry juice. The ascorbic acid in cranberries helps thin liver bile, making it easier for the organ to emulsify fat so it can be quickly flushed out of the sytem rather than stored in cells.

Olives and Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats that induce satiation even sooner.

Nix snack attack with kidney beans. These satisfying legumes are an excellent source of soluble fiber, which slows digestion, keeping you full longer.

Prevent hibernation fat by sipping Green Tea. To counter act a binge, keep your body's fat-burning furnace running on full blast by drinking green tea. Green tea contains caffeine and the antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is proven to boost metabolic rate. In fact, in a recent 3 month study, participants who took green tea extract lost 4.6% of their body weight without changing their diet. To get the benefit, drink at leat 3 cups a day.

Lose up to 40% more weight with Calcium-rich foods. Researchers links calcium with lower stress-hormone cortisol production (cortisol switches the body into a fat-storing mode), and it has been proven that women who increase their intake lose up to 40% more weight than calcium avoiders. Sources of Calcium include yogurt, ricotta cheese and spinach.

Curb overeating with Grapes. Enjoying 1 cup each day can boost insulin sensitivity by 7%, and that translates into a 42% drop in erratic blood sugar, binge eating and weight concerns, USDA studies suggest. The credit goes to cyanidin, kaempferol and phenolics. "These phytochemicals activate the brain's satiety center, so you feel full on far less food", says Connie Guttersen

Can anyone give me some good weight loss advice?

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

I am a very busy 21-year-old woman. I work full time and go to school full time nights. I don't have much time and am always eating on the run. (Which means it's hard for me to lose weight.) I have gotten into the routine of walking half an hour in the morning every day which is good, but I've kind of hit a plateau and am stuck because I can't find anytime to cook so I can eat right. Do you have any good advice or quick cook recipes (no fish) to solve this problem? Anyone else my age having trouble with their weight loss?

I'm 29, and have always had a hard time. I have found that the easiest and most effective thing is to eat small amounts, several times a day. I don't even eat healthy all the time…I keep things like nuts, string cheese, summer sausage, etc…around, and just make myself eat something every couple of hours. I avoid fast food as much as possible, and when I do eat it, I order a kid's meal to help with portion control. When I sit down to a regular meal, I always take 1/2 of what I think I want, wait about 20 min., and then judge if I NEED more or not. The other big key is water…AT LEAST 8 servings a day, and more is better. NO regular pop. The fact that you are already in the habit of walking is great as well. Keep doing that, but maybe use a timer and try to go a little farther each day within your 30 min. That will increase your pace without taking more time. I hope this helps. I know how frustrating it is to try and do work and school at the same time, and still struggle to find time for housework and taking care of yourself…which always seems to end up the lowest priority. :)
